Single Payer Universal Health Care: What Does It Mean to You?

Okay, so I haven't exactly posted much of anything for a while. Let's just say I was otherwise occupied, life being what happens while making plans and all. We may get into what that has meant for me at another time.

I do have a question for those who still read the stuff here at the Pubhouse: What does "Single Payer Universal Health Care" mean to you? Do you support the idea, or not?

It means that no matter what doctor I see at whichever medical facility, I just sign a form and the government pays the bill. If I have income, my income is taxed to pay for healthcare. If I am indigent, the government pays up front to keep from paying more down the road. If I have limited income, my healthcare taxes are prorated, and if I'm a wealthy S.O.B., I pay extra.

It means a risk pool consisting of the entire country, which would immediately bring down the per-participant costs of care-- catastrophic expenses would be shared out through the entire system, instead of being concentrated in a single community/state/corporation.

It also means a health care system run by a consistent set of standards as opposed to the current system of self-serving proprietary interests.
