The Curmudgeon

I suppose it could have been worse- I could have read my own damn obituary. Given the lack of posting on my part, such speculation would've been mildly warranted.

It was a surprise, I must admit, to have read in my good friend The Mississipifarian's blog that I was blogging elsewhere at something called the MN Progressive Project... And sure enough, someone using the moniker 'Curmudgeon' is blogging there.

But that ain't me. I've been, to borrow from Dorothy Parker, "too fucking busy, and vice versa." T Miss should have known that, but I also know he harbors a deep mistrust of Greens. And quite possibly old punk rockers, too.

The point is well-taken, though. I have been silent here long enough that impostors have popped up. Let's hope it doesn't become a Highlander-type deal. In any case, though- I'll be posting more, I promise.

Glad to hear it but the Highlander thing makes me a bit nervous. I mentioned in my comments that I'd bet on you in a Texas chainsaw duel to the death with this Johnny curmudge lately, but in a swordfight I just don't know. Broadswords maybe....

I have long signed my posts on the St Paul Issues Forums posts as the "Curmudgeon from Merriam Park", so I was referred to as the St Paul curmudgeon which later was shortened to saint curmudgeon. However every person who takes a moniker of curmudgeon feels alone, bristly and unique. To have more than one is just wrong. We lose our sense of aloneness and our sense individualness. There can be no community of curmudgeons, the world would explode.

So there is only one thing left to do. Reclaim the title.

Sign on as the "The Real Curmudgeon" or "The one and only curmudgon", or "The Curmudgeon" and write the diaries that prove the curmudgeonly insight and humor of which you and only you are capable of. You are invited. You are dared. You are even taunted. Now is the time!

Defend it or lose it!

I dare you!

The thing is, I do not have to 'reclaim' my title. I've been doing this blog -The Curmudgeon- for years now. I don't need to start a freaking diary ("Dear Diary- My spineless ass party let me down again! I guess I just need to bite my pillow harder... that's the ONLY way we can get change!") at some other place to somehow establish or justify myself.

I'll be blogging here, laying it out as only The Curmudgeon can. So stay the hell off my lawn!
