What a joy it is to live in the U.S. in these times. There are so many, many games we as citizens get to play. Or, perhaps more accurately, we watch the games being played, and then attempt to convince ourselves that any of it really matters.

The now-hackneyed example of this is the "bittergate". The way the talking-head ghouls and whores ruminated (literally- who doesn't note that whenever Carville or Matalin get their pundit on, there's more than a bit of vomit in the back of their throats, and our own?) over Obama's 'bitter' comment and the swooping vulture reaction of the Her Royal Clintonness, one would get the idea that this truly was the news event of the week. Never mind the dog and pony show (Petraeus and Crocker) running out more clock for this regime's occupation of Iraq. McSame STILL can't discern the difference between Sunni and Shi'ia Islam and the constituency of al Qaeda- but holy shit- Obama said Americans who've been getting butt-fucked by an elephant for decades might be bitter!

As quickly as the crack media dogpile fell on this non-story, the HRC machine was even more swift. First with the 'elitist' meme, ushered without even a hint of intentional irony by team Clinton, and then supported with the "Blue-Collar Dress Up" version of HRC. Hell, she 'baked cookies' when her husband was running for the presidency; when She Herself is seeking the throne, you better damn well bet she'll sit in a bingo hall and drink a boilermaker if the calculation is that it makes her fit in with the common folk better.

And until Pennsylvania has their primary, some 9 days from now, we can expect more and more of the same. The next bit will be all about the religious stuff, baby. The Pope's in town, and the former Nazi is snubbin' Bunnypants, but that'll do for setting the leitmotif of "yeah, we're a churchy nation, but are we theocratic enough?". So, expect lots of overt and covert 'religious' issues early on this week.

Be sure to tell yourself it matters, too.
